IPMA’s update at 18:33 UTC on 7 September extended the yellow high-temperature warning for Madeira’s south coast and Porto Santo until 18:00 UTC on Wednesday 9 September (19:00 local time), 24 hours later than previously stated. The warning cites persistent high maximum temperatures. Madeira’s north coast and mountainous regions remain green, as do all Azores groups and every mainland district. Property cooling, refrigeration and remote temperature monitoring on the affected islands therefore need to remain operational for an additional day.
Why it matters
If you have a home, hotel operation or temperature-sensitive stock on Madeira’s south coast or Porto Santo, the hazard period now continues through Wednesday evening. Cooling equipment, medicines, wine and other temperature-sensitive assets cannot be stood down on Tuesday as previously planned.

- Keep air conditioning, refrigeration and remote temperature alarms operating on Madeira’s south coast and Porto Santo until 19:00 local time on 9 September.
- Extend the keyholder or maintenance on-call arrangement by one day and obtain a fresh time-stamped temperature reading on Tuesday.
- Mainland heat-warning controls may be stood down because all mainland districts are now green.
